Windows 10 has a feature called WiFi Sense, which will automatically share your WiFi connection with other electronic equipment.  Sounds great, doesn’t it?  No more writing down or repeating SIDs and passwords to let people access your secure, private wireless network.  Well, I consider this a bad idea for business.  This is a simple cyber-security issue to consider.  I would encourage you to consider turning the feature off to be more secure vs more convenient.  Letting people access your wireless network without specifically giving them the password is not a good idea.

Here’s how to turn this feature off in Windows 10.  In Cortana, type “Change WiFi Settings”, then select “Change WiFi Settings” at the top of the list.  This will open the WiFi settings page. On this page turn off the sliders below the following three controls.

  1. WiFi Sense … Connect to suggested open hotspots
  2. Hotspot 2.0 networks … Let me use Online Sign-Up to get connected
    1. You may want to turn this feature “on” for traveling laptops, but office computers should have it “off”.
  3. Paid WiFi Services
